The trivial but extremely painful sores in the mouth are called as canker sores. Usually they are red in color, but sometimes are covered with a white layer. Canker sores are generally formed on the inner side of the cheeks, beneath the tongue and base of the gums. Sometimes, people confuse fever blebs with canker sores, which are formed on the edges of the mouth or outside the lips.

- The best treatment of canker sores can be done if the patients chew or suck a couple of tablets of papaya which twice or thrice in a day. In case, papaya tablets are not available, fresh papaya can be used instead. Papaya is a great diet for treating canker sores.
- A tested natural cure for canker sores-take about two tablespoons of fresh juice of plum and rinse your mouth with the liquid for several minutes. If the sore is really severe, dip a small ball of cotton in the plum liquid and press it on the sore for about ten to twenty minutes.
- Using tea bag on the area affected by canker is one of the best home remedies for canker sores. You can simply place a tobacco chaw on the damaged area and press it gently on it. Tea contains tannic acid which acts as an astringent and functions in healing the wounds and lessening the pain.
- There is special oil which is taken from the leaves of a famous tree in Australia known as Melaleuca alterifolia; it can be used for treating canker sores. The oil consists of compounds with antiseptic properties, which is excellent for disinfecting the skin. A daily use of five to fifteen percent solution is recommended for the treatment.
- You can also use salt water as a homemade remedy for the treatment of canker sores. Mix two tablespoons of salt in a glass of water containing six ounces of lukewarm water. Use this liquid as a mouth wash thrice a day. The property of salt and alum to absorb fluids from the sores speed up the healing process.
- Salvia officinalis or Sage is used to make tea and mouth washing agent. The herb consists of syptic and drying properties; it is extensively used by Native Americans to rinse their mouth and get rid of painful sores. Applying sage in powdered form on the sore also helps it to heal.
- One of the most useful home remedies for canker sores-take a coconut and crush it to extract out fresh milk from it. Gargle with this liquid at least thrice in a day. Fresh coconut is the best healing agent for canker sores.
- Rinsing mouth with a glass of cold water and then a glass of lukewarm water is useful for treating sores.
- Take 2 cups full of water and let them come to boiling point. Add a cup of leaves of fenugreek into it and take it off the flame. Allow it to cool for a while and then strain the mixture. Rinse the sore mouth with it two or three times a day.
- There is another proven remedy for canker sores; take a cup of water and mix it with a tablespoon of coriander leaves and boil it. Let it cool for a few minutes and then strain it. Use this solution to gargle and heal your canker sores.
